सती–प्रथा नेपालमा  कहिलेदेखि चल्दै आएको हो, यकिन छैन । त्यो क्रूर प्रथा प्राचीनकालदेखि नै प्रचलित थियो । वैदिककालदेखि चल्दै आएको सती–प्रथा हिन्दु समाजमा  नैतिक कानुन जस्तै हुँदै आयो ।
